Carry a Spare Key For Your MazdaIt's a risk to leave children in a vehicle. They could cause power windows to pop open or other controls to function, or even cause the car to move.
Contact an expert locksmith if you lose your Mazda key. They can create spare keys for any Mazda model.
If your key is damaged, or isn't functioning properly, they can cut and program an entirely new one.
Keyless Remote Control Fob
Some cars are equipped with key fobs, which allow you to unlock and open your car doors remotely and even start your engine. But, as with any piece of technology, these can fail from time-to-time. Fortunately the majority of key fob problems aren't complex or dangerous and can be resolved easily. Always have a spare car keys to avoid issues.
Key fobs need batteries, that need to be replaced on a regular basis. Some fobs have removable covers that make it simple to swap out the battery, while others may need a special tool or dealer assistance. A new battery can last for around one year, irrespective of the kind of fob you have. A spare battery can save you from being stranded in the middle of your commute in Manhattan, White Plains or other places.
The "flip key" fobs have a key that can be flipped out when you press a button. The fob also comes with buttons to unlock the door, open the trunk, etc. The key part can be flipped back to the remote when it is not being used. Fobs and flip keys can be prone to damage from various sources, such as blunt force, water and circuit board scratches and excessive heat.

Transponder Chip Keys
If you have a car from the last two decades or so, chances are that it will require a transponder chip for start. This technology helps prevent theft of cars by using an encrypted code that can only be deciphered by the car's computer. The key contains a tiny microchip inside it that's similar to the chips used in military aircraft. The chip connects to a vehicle's onboard computer system via an antenna with a ringed design.
The key also has copper wiring connected to the microchip. This wire sends a message to the onboard computer in the car when you turn the key in the ignition. The computer in the car then responds by allowing the engine's to start. If the code is valid, it will stay on and the car won't stop or lock itself.
Some Mazda keys require programming (transponder keys and remote/fob keys). They are only programmed with the help of a car dealer or automotive locksmith. Other keys aren't required to be programmed. Other keys don't require any kind of code.
Keys with Keyless Entry System
Mazda's Keyless Entry System allows you to open and start your vehicle using only one keyfob. The key fob is equipped with an encryption chip that transmits a signal to the car electronics that activate doors and ignition. Some models even come with an unlocked key to start the engine.
To keep mazda key cut and transmitter connected, a 40-bit number is generated each time a keyfob button is pressed. The codes are generated by the transmitter and receiver using a pseudo-random generation system so that they do not repeat.
If you're experiencing problems with your Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry, it could be due to the battery on the fob is low or the transmitter in the car is malfunctioning. If the issue continues you should bring the fob to Holiday Mazda in Fond du Lac, WI, to have an expert look. If you have an extra electronic key, bring that along too to use while you wait for your Mazda dealer to address the issue. Also, remove the plate connected to the key set, and store it in a secure location (not in your vehicle). This will give you the code needed should you need to purchase a replacement keyfob.
Keys with Remote Control
This keyless remote works with your Mazda if it has the standard keyless entry system. It will unlock the doors as well as start the engine. It can also be used with the factory KEY LOCK. It is necessary to have the remote professionally programmed once it is received by a local auto locksmith (click here for Locksmith Search). It is an aftermarket key fob, therefore it does not have the Mazda logo on it.
The key buttons control the door locks, the liftgate lids, fuel-filler locks (if equipped) and also activating the engine of your car and activating the theft-deterrent system when your car is equipped. The hazard warning lamp and/or warning sound will indicate an issue. See your Authorized Mazda Dealer for more details.
It is important not to leave children in the car with the key, since they may be able operate the controls or cause the vehicle to move. Also, the battery in the key will require replacement about once every year. The KEY warning indicator will be displayed in the instrument cluster, or the KEY Battery Replace Warning Beep.
