Locking the Door
Volvo's remote keyfobs unlock your vehicle's doors, tailgate and fuel filler flap at the press of a button. The remote key fobs also switch on the ignition and activate the alarm. The key fob should be held with the Volvo logo facing upwards, and press the manual lock/unlock. Locate the black button that is on the outside of the key fob body and gently press it to open a cover which conceals a manual key blade. The cover can be flipped counterclockwise by using a flathead or coin.
Start the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs provide an unbeatable level of convenience and function that is unmatched by traditional manual keys. However, just like any battery-powered electronic device, a key fob can be depleted of its charge or cease working after a certain period of time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive to pressing the lock or unlock buttons, that's a good sign that it needs a new battery.
If your vehicle is fitted with an installed dealer-installed Engine Remote Start accessory, you can also make use of the key fob in order to activate this feature. The vehicle will be able to cool or heat to the exact temperature it was set to when it was parked, and last for up to 15 minutes.
Remove the cover on the back of the key fob with your fingernail. Under the cover and on a diagonal at the body's edge you will find an unidentified button. Take it off by sliding it downwards and then to the right. The cover will then come out and slide off and reveal the manual key blade inside! If you're still having trouble finding the button, you can search the newly exposed manual key access to see whether there is a hidden slot or lever.
Close the Windows
Volvo key fobs feature an option that hides behind them that allows you to immediately roll down all the windows. This is a great feature when trying to squeeze into a tight parking space, or just when you need some fresh air in your cabin while driving.
To do this, press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower the windows and the sunroof, should you have one. When you're finished with the car you can shut the doors by pressing the lock button a second time for four seconds.

Turning off the Alarm
Modern key fobs are more practical than a mechanical car key. They're not always perfect, and the batteries can die. It is possible to program your key fob at home in case you are in a hurry or don't have time visit a shop.
Find a clean work surface and lay out your key fob, battery and other keys. Find the small black button on the bottom left corner on the key fob and slide it to the right. The cover should come loose and fall off, revealing the mechanical key blade underneath.
The button for unlocking the key fob two times quickly, and you'll be able open all doors and the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for 2 seconds, you will be able to close the windows and sunroof when they're equipped. Connect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, the owner's manual should provide a way to reset the alarm.
